Beyoncé Heat

R&B superstar and 10 time 2010 Grammy nominee Beyoncé Knowles is launching her first perfume in February aptly titled, Beyoncé Heat. The perfume, to be launched by Coty, Inc., one of the world’s largest fragrance companies, is expected to be distributed worldwide in addition to the 2000 U.S. department and specialty stores.

Ms. Knowles explained to Women’s Wear Daily how she came up with the name, “A lot of my performances have had fire involved, so we thought ‘Heat.’ Also, red is one of my favorite colors, as is gold, so then we thought of making the bottle look like it’s on fire. I love antique bottles — my mother had a collection of them when I was growing up. I wanted something with an antique yet modern feeling. Even with my wardrobe, I always try to find things that have a little bit of something vintage, yet still timeless and classic. The bottle, I felt, was a great mixture of the two.”

To achieve the scent, she worked directly with a flavor and fragrance industry powerhouse from Switzerland, Givaudan (www.givaudan.com). Her primary flavorists, Claude Dir and Olivier Gillotin, managed to work in top notes of magnolia, red vanilla orchid, neroli and blush peach; a heart of honeysuckle nectar, almond macaroon and crème de musk, and a drydown of giant sequoia milkwood, tonka bean and amber.

The Beyoncé Heat lineup includes eau de parfum in three sizes — 1 oz., 1.7 oz., and 3.4 oz. — as well as a 6.8-oz. Gold Sparkling Body Lotion. The collection will be available in Canada and Latin America next month.
